About project

The reconstruction and modernization of the Vrublevskis Library complex, overseen by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, is nearing completion in Vilnius, promising to become a distinguished cultural and educational hub in the capital. Once finished, the library will not only serve researchers but will also be an open space for people of all ages and interests, fostering learning, education, and personal development.

The renovation process began in 2016, carefully planned to allow the library to continue its operations throughout construction. Major infrastructure upgrades have already been completed, including new archival storage facilities, a renovated facade, and a reconstructed roof. Currently, work is underway to restore interior spaces, upgrade engineering systems, and preserve stained glass elements. In the near future, elevators, basement and first-floor facilities, and site landscaping will also be completed.

By the end of the project, the library will feature a wide range of revitalized spaces tailored to public needs, including reading rooms, manuscript and rare book sections, book restoration facilities, and binding workshops. A unique highlight of the project is the authentic restoration of Tadas Vrublevskis’ historic office, preserving its original character.

Following reconstruction, Vrublevskis Library will stand as one of Lithuania’s most modern and accessible cultural institutions, preserving the country’s heritage while creating new opportunities for education and public engagement.
